Description
The polarization of Xi- hyperons obtained from the (K^-, K^+) reaction provides crucial insights into the underlying reaction mechanism. In the absence of an S=-2 meson, there is no t-channel Born-term diagram in the (K^-, K^+) reaction. The forward-peaking differential cross-sections for the (K^-, K^+) reaction require high-spin hyperon resonances in the s channel and box diagrams involving two kaon exchanges. Measuring the polarization is essential for understanding the reaction amplitudes and determining the reaction mechanism. We present the results of the polarization measurement for Xi- hyperons produced in the p(K^-,K^+)Xi^- reaction at a beam momentum of 1.8 GeV/c. This measurement was based on approximately 800 Xi- events, providing significantly more data than previous experiments with old hydrogen bubble chambers.
